Privacy Policy

Draft · 30 October 2026 · uniwrite.ng

This draft explains what UniWrite collects, why, and the rights you have under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR). The data controller’s registered name and contact will be confirmed before publication.

Who we are

UniWrite (uniwrite.ng) is an academic workspace for Nigerian university students. For this draft, “we” means the operator of UniWrite. The legal entity, address, and Nigeria Data Protection Commission registration details are to be inserted after review.

What we collect

  • Account details from Google: name, email address, and profile photo.
  • Details you choose to give, such as university, department, level, and how you heard about us.
  • Project content: topics, chapter text, uploaded documents, papers you add, and formatting files.
  • Payment references from Paystack. We do not store your full card number.
  • Product usage, such as pages visited and actions needed to run the workspace.
  • Beta session recordings of the writing and formatting workspace, only after you agree.
  • Messages you send through the feedback form, with the page you were on.

Why we use it

We use this information to create your account, decide beta access, generate and store your work, take payment, keep the service secure, and understand failures. The lawful bases we rely on under the NDPA include steps you ask us to take (providing the workspace), consent (session recording and optional profile details), and legitimate interest in securing and improving the service, balanced against your rights.

Who else processes it

  • Google, for sign-in.
  • Paystack, for payments in Naira.
  • The hosting and database providers that store the app and your projects.
  • Amplitude, for product analytics on how the workspace is used.
  • Axiom, for error and performance logs.

Where it is processed

Some of these providers store data outside Nigeria. Where that happens, we intend to use providers that offer a reasonable level of protection and contractual safeguards, as the NDPA expects for cross-border transfers. The specific transfer tool will be named in the final notice.

How long we keep it

Account and project data stay while your account is open and for a short period afterwards so we can resolve disputes, payments, and deletions. Payment records are kept for as long as Nigerian tax and accounting rules require. Session recordings are kept only for the beta review they were collected for, then deleted or de-identified. Error logs are kept for a limited operational window.

Your rights

Under the NDPA and NDPR you can ask to access, correct, or delete personal data, object to certain processing, withdraw consent (including session recording), and lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). Withdrawing consent for recording does not by itself delete a project you asked us to store.

To make a request, use the in-app feedback form while signed in, or the contact address added when this draft is finalised. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you. You can also ask us to delete the account, which removes the project content we are not required to keep.

Cookies and storage on your device

We store the sign-in session and your theme choice in local storage so you stay signed in and the interface remembers light or dark mode. We do not use that storage to sell data.

Children

UniWrite is for university students. It is not directed at children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
